The online vocal/instrumental music competition is open to contestants of all nationalities aged 16+ who are interested in pursuing Music studies at the University of Nicosia (UNIC).
Scholarship Award
One Academic scholarship (50%) for the undergraduate BMus in Music programme (equals to approximately €18,000). The scholarship covers tuition fees only and excludes books and other fees, such as application fees, etc.
Rules and Regulations
- Students must hold a high school leaving certificate or equivalent to join the university, however, scholarship can be deferred for younger contestants, as the awardees may begin their studies during the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, or Fall 2024 semester.
- Participants are required to perform 1-2 musical pieces/songs from genres ranging from Western Classical Music to Jazz, Traditional or Popular Music. The duration should be between 7-10 minutes, except for Western classical music pieces, which could be longer.
- The contestants will be judged based solely on the submitted recordings. Each judge will evaluate the contestants on a number of criteria, such as musicality, degree of difficulty, range, artistic ability, technique, interpretation, phrasing, and presence.
- The video recordings should not be edited and the pieces should be recorded no more than 6 months before the date of submission.
- UNIC Music Faculty will serve as jury for the competition.
- There is no participation fee.
- The winner will be informed after the decision of the committee and will be notified via email.
- The name of the winner of the competition will be published on the University of Nicosia website and social media.

Instructions for Video Recording
- The video has to be recorded in landscaping-recording mode.
- Make sure your video is steady – use a tripod if possible.
- Avoid using the digital zoom to preserve video quality.
- Any video format is accepted.
- The body of the musician must be fully visible from the beginning until the end of the performance.
- Keep the background simple. Plain solid walls are best.
- Consider your lighting.
- Special effects are not allowed.
- During the performance the jury members must be able to hear the music clearly so make sure that the recording is performed in a quiet room with no background noise. Use airplane mode when recording.
- Studio recordings (i.e. editing and cuts of the video) are not allowed and will be disqualified if noticed.
- The video must be ONE SINGLE SHOT, not multiple clips edited together.
- Stage performances (i.e. TV shows and other live festival performances) are not allowed.

Sending the Files
Once you have completed your recording, sending your video directly from your mobile device is the quickest and most convenient method. Be aware that the file size may be large. We recommend using a free app like Send Anywhere or Envelope to upload the video and generate a shareable link. Simply locate the recorded video clip in your phone’s gallery, review it, upload it, and share the link, as part of the Application Form here below. Keep in mind, that there are many other similar apps available to suit your needs.
