The Master of Music program at EUC explores advanced concepts in music education including curriculum theory and design, psychology, teaching strategies and technology in the music classroom. Students are equipped with theoretical, philosophical and creative skills to support and enhance their teaching in varied educational and cultural settings. The Master of Music program offers two areas of specialization: Music Pedagogy and Music Composition.

As with all educators today, music teachers must leverage technology to engage students in the learning process and prepare them for careers of the future. The MMus at EUC will help you develop the teaching, technical and research skills that shape this specialization and reach your full potential in your chosen career path.

Program

All students pursuing a Master of Music in: “Music Pedagogy/Composition” program must complete the following requirements*:

Degree Requirements 

  • Core Courses: 30 ECTS
  • Concentration Courses: 30 ECTS
  • Master Thesis/Portfolio: 30 ECTS
  • Total Requirements: 90 ECTS

Core Courses

  • Research Methodology in Music
  • Theory and Principles of Ensemble Direction
  • Topics in History, Repertoire and Theory of Music

Concentration Courses
The following three (3) courses from one of the two concentrations:

Music Pedagogy

  • Philosophical and Sociological Dimensions of Music Education
  • Diversity, Citizenship and Social Justice in Music Education
  • Teaching Approaches and Music Curricula

Composition

  • Form and Structure
  • Compositional Techniques
  • Interdisciplinary Approaches in Composition

Master Thesis
Master Thesis/Portfolio

  • For Music Pedagogy: Master Thesis
  • For Composition: Portfolio

*Students will be able to either choose exclusively Concentration Courses from one of the two concentrations (Music Pedagogy OR Composition) and thus they will be awarded the title Master of Music in: Music Pedagogy OR Composition, or they will be able to select Concentration Courses from any of the two concentrations. In that case, they will be awarded a Master’s degree in Music (without concentration).
